Workforce DevelopmentHamden Supports Workforce ReadinessA well-trained workforce is a key part of a solid local economic infrastructure. Workers must be able to meet the changing demands of businesses. To meet the goals set forth by Hamden’s Economic Development Plan, the Town has taken ambitious steps to promote Workforce Readiness and Development, an essential element in creating a vibrant, thriving community. Part of Hamden’s progressive vision includes employment-seeking centers administered by the Town’s Jobs Resource counselor (JRC). The JRC is part of a broader initiative- The Hamden Workforce Advisory Group, which advocates action on work readiness issues for workers. The group promotes the expansion of affordable childcare, transportation, job skills resources, and programs that incorporate people with disabilities into the workplace. Within the context of the Economic Development Plan and specifically workforce development, the JRC seeks to expand and improve employment opportunities for Hamden residents. The JRC has partnered with area agencies such as the Department of Social Services, Regional Workforce Development Board, (see link below) Department of Labor, (see link)Family Alliance and various area colleges and training programs to better serve those seeking employment. The commitment of this full-time position to managing these concerns reflects the Town’s dedication to customer service for businesses locating or considering locating to Hamden. The JRC directs the Job Resource Center and maintains office hours at key locations including the Miller Library and the Keefe Center. Services offered to residents include job search, resume assistance and interviewing skills. The JRC has a strong connection to Human Resource professionals and business owners to find the right match for the business and the job seeker. The Resource Center is available from 10AM to 9PM Monday-Thursday and 10AM-5:30PM on Friday and Saturday. Susan Hutchinson may be contacted for an appointment at 287-2647 (Library) or 562-5129 (Keefe Center).
