Several New Businesses Locate and Expand In Hamden


Hamden is getting several new additions to the business community, along with the expansion of another. The Town of Hamden and the Department of Economic and Community Development is happy to welcome Peachy Keen, The Edge Fitness Club, New England Fertility Institute and Cheshire Bike Shop. They are also pleased to announce the expansion of Dr. Rippel's practice, Quinnipiac Internal Medicine, P.C. Dr. Rippel was at his previous location nearly 13 years and will be increasing his office space dramatically in his new building space.

Mayor Scott Jackson helped celebrate Peachy Keen's grand opening on Thursday, April 26 after officially opening their doors in January 2012. “We would like to welcome Peachy Keen to Hamden to serve our residents in northern Hamden and throughout the region,” stated Mayor Jackson. Peachy Keen, is a locally-owned self-serve frozen yogurt shop in Hamden. They serve a variety of low to non-fat flavors along with many toppings to choose from.

The Edge Fitness Clubs
Work has begun on the newest addition to the Edge Fitness Club family in Hamden. Joining seven other locations, the Edge is slated to be opening in Fall 2012. With the first club opening in 1987, the Edge has expanded tremendously and has been recognized as the best health club in the area. In addition to cardio machines and strength training areas, the Edge offers services to support you and your goals. Some programs offered are personal training, nutrition counseling and the Edge Revolution Body Change Program to help you achieve your overall goals. They also offer group exercise classes, specifically Zumba, cycling, pilates, yoga and kickboxing, as well as on-site childcare. Dr. Rippel Relocates To New Address

After starting Quinnipiac Internal Medicine, P.C. nearly 13 years ago on Whitney Avenue, Dr. Edward Rippel has decided to relocate down the road. Dr. Rippel is a board certified internist, who has been providing care to the Hamden/greater New Haven area since 1993, and started his own practice in 1999. He graduated from the New York Medical College in Valhala, NY and since then has traveled the country as an Attending Physician with the U.S. Public Health Service.


Dr. Rippel was given national recognition for his superior care in Diabetes, as well as named Physician of the Year in 2011 by New Haven Magazine. He has also been a faculty member at the Yale School of Medicine. Dr. Rippel is fluent in Spanish and conversant in Italian enabling him to communicate more clearly with a broader community.

New England Fertility Institute

The New England Fertility Institute has expanded their practice into Hamden. The Institute originally was founded in 1991 by board certified reproductive endocrinologist Dr. Gad Lavy, as the first non-hospital based outpatient in vitro fertilization (IVF) center in Connecticut. They have been pioneers in such therapies as ICSI, PGD and egg freezing. New England Fertility Institute has one of the largest egg donor/gestational surrogacy programs in Fairfield County and offers a state-of-the-art diagnostic, medical and surgical IVF center. In addition to the Hamden location, the Institute also offers two other convenient locations within the state.

Cheshire Cycle & Repair Bike Shop

Cheshire Cycle & Repair has recently relocated from Cheshire to its new location on 3550 Whitney Ave in Hamden. Their new location is conveniently located next to the Farmington Canal trail and bike path. This full service bike shop rents, sells, repairs and fits bikes, as well as has a professional bicycle mechanic on staff at all times. They carry a comprehensive selection of both clothing and parts, and will quickly get an item to you that may not be in stock. Cheshire Cycle & Repair also sponsors one of the state's premier road race teams. They look forward to sharing their knowledge and passion of cycling with the Town of Hamden and central Connecticut.
