Construction & Abatement Continues on Hamden Incubator
Phase One of Hamden’s Business Incubator is beginning to take shape. Using funds from a grant provided by the State of Connecticut’s Economic Development Department Phase One of the project began on August 23rd. Phase One includes roof repairs and limited asbestos and mold cleanup at the location of the former Newhall Community Center. One of the goals of the funding was to complete a building and site survey, as well as a detailed cost estimate.
(Incubator Before) (Incubator After)
The Community Center, which has been closed since 2002, will be the new location for small businesses that are looking for a smaller space to help them grow, as well as a space to share services and ideas.
Paragon Construction is the general contractor and Mount Carmel Restoration the Abatement Contractor for the Business Incubator. Buchanan Architects is the architect for the project and Eagle Environmental Inc. is the Environmental Engineer for the Hamden Business Incubator.
Soon after Phase One is complete, contractors continue to Phase Two, which is expected to start in the late fall of 2012. This will include additional asbestos and mold cleanup.
The Hamden Economic Development Corporation (HEDC), a 501C4, a tax-exempt corporation, will own, develop and manage the facility. While managing the construction, they will also work together with small businesses to assist them with transitioning into the Hamden Business Incubator. Every business that is located in the Hamden Business Incubator will lease classrooms and other areas within the former center. The Hamden Business Assistance Center will work with these businesses to help develop or improve their business plan, as well as work with them on marketing and Business to Business needs.
